LIFE ACCORDING TO SAKI by Katherine Rundell.
Laurels: winner of the Carol Tambor Best of Edinburgh Award 2016.

2016/17        Edinburgh & New York

1916. In the trenches of the Somme, a soldier tells stories. That soldier is Saki. As he and his fellow soldiers bear witness to a world turned on its head, they find refuge in the bizarre world of the imagination - Saki's world.

The best stories are true enough to be interesting - and not true enough to be tedious.

Atticist's first play - and the first play by award-winning children's author Katherine Rundell - premiered at the 2016 Edinburgh Fringe. It won the Carol Tambor Best of Edinburgh Award 2016 and transferred to New York's 4th Street Theatre in February/March 2017.

"Do one thing for me, Sredni Vashtar!"

Saki was the pen name of early-twentieth-century satirist Hector Hugh Munro. Somewhere between Oscar Wilde and Roald Dahl, Saki’s creations are witty, absurd, and peculiarly optimistic. Katherine Rundell is the author of The Good Thieves, The Explorer (Costa Children's Book Award), Rooftoppers (Waterstones Children's Book Prize), Cartwheeling in Thunderstorms (Boston Globe-Horn Book Award, UK: The Girl Savage), and The Wolf Wilder.

In memory of our friend Rudolph Greditor Slobins.

The stories march on, when we cannot march.
